Description of classes and levels

Pre-Ballet and Creative Movement: for 3 – 6 years of age.

Program designed to teach young children basic dance skills and elementary steps. Exercises incorporated help to develop rhythm, coordination and creativity while introducing proper classroom etiquette necessary for further study. Joy of movement is a big part of this introductory class!

Classical Ballet:

The classical ballet program is based on the progressive Vaganova, Russian syllabus that trains students from Beginning thru Advanced levels. Students are then introduced to other styles to help enrich their education and prepare them for the current dance trends used in today’s professional dance world. Classes are 1 ½ hr. and incorporate a full barre, stretches, center adagio, petit allegro and grand allegro.

Pointe:

When students achieve the strength necessary, pointe classes train students to execute the classical ballet steps en pointe. Pointe classes follow ballet technique classes and are ½ hr – 1 hour in length.

Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary:

There are several styles of jazz offered including traditional, modern, lyrical, contemporary and broadway. Beginning thru advanced levels incorporate exercises and stretches using isolations and complex rhythm patterns and progressions to develop the body for the specific style being learned.
Ballet is recommended for intermediate and advanced study of Jazz, Lyrical and Contemporary dance.

Tap:

Tap classes incorporate a variety of styles with an emphasis on rhythm tap. Students work towards strong tap technique and building speed and clarity of sound. Classes will focus on traveling across the floor with tap turns, pickups, and riff combinations. There will be exposure to a variety of styles in combinations, with the goal of a strong display of tap technique and showmanship.

Adult Dance Program:

For recreational students interested in learning to dance using the correct technique. An enjoyable way to study dance, shape up and relieve everyday stress.

Hip Hop:

Hip Hop is a high energy class combining break dancing, street dancing, popping and locking. It is a fun filled class encouraging students to bring their own personality and individual style to the Hip Hop movement.
